This page illustrates the GetCapabilities Operation for the SCHeMA SOS Service. This operation allows clients to retrieve information about the SCHeMA SOS service instance, including metadata about all the SCHeMA probes, experiments and operations. The GetCapabilities Operation supports HTTP/GET and HTTP/POST request methods. For further info see the list of GetCapabilities parameters for more details.

The response to a GetCapabilities request is an XML encoded document that conforms to the SOS 1.0.0 Implementation Specification [OGC 06-009r6], and illustrates the characteristics of the SOS system by providing a comprehensive information about the SOS server, the organization operating the service, operations implemented and observation offerings available to users

This document lists four sections:

  • ows:ServiceIdentification - contains metadata about this specific server, including the title, abstract, keywords, service type and version
  • ows:SeriviceProvider - contains metadata about the organization operating this server, including service provider name, site, address, contact information.
  • ows:OperationsMetadata - contains metadata about the operations specified by this service and implemented by this server, including the URLs, parameters for operation requests
  • Contents - contains information about the observation offerings available, such as procedures, feature of interest and observed properties.
